== What to Expect ==
== What to know before starting PirateCraft? ==
Please start by reading the [[Rules]].

Expect to be killed. This is a PvP Survival server and you will be killed at some point if you play long enough. Don't carry valuables with you, you likely will not get them back. Going to /warp cove is safe and a PvP-Free zone, any other warp that has signs reading "No PvP" are suggestions rather than rules.
Expect to be killed. This is a PvP Survival server and you will be killed at some point if you play long enough. Nobody is here to help you get started, we want to see what you are made of first.

Staff members (shown in red, orange, and blue) are available to ensure players are following the rules; however, they will not return lost items, settle disputes, or provide other assistance.
Do not cheat or run any client mods. Do not discuss or advertise another server or service. These actions will get you banned permanently.
== How to get started ==
First visit our [http://map.piratemc.com live map] and get familiar with the world.  Locate the various warps (cove, north, south, east, west) and find a place you want to call home.

Almost nobody is going to help you get started, we want to see what you are made of first. Do not ask for items or to join crews, just survive on your own. Use the [http://map.piratemc.com live map] and the nearest warp to get close to where you want to start. Use /sethome when you arrive and start mining early as you will need stone to build with and gold to modify your claim.
Start [https://minecraft.net/ minecraft], Click ''Multiplayer'' and click ''Add Server''; Server Name: PirateCraft, Server Address: '''mc.piratemc.com'''. After joining for the first time use ''/warp cove'' and look around, get familiar with this area as it’s the only area that does not allow PvP. Once you are ready to set out on your own use one of the ''/warp [direction]'' locations to get started.

If you need food, type ''/kits'' to see what kits (kits contain tools etc) you have, every rank you get promoted to, you get a new kit. Do not beg for food or other items/services from players, you will only wind up being muted.

If you have lost your inventory or something is missing from a chest it will not be replaced by staff, do not ask.
== How do I make a base? ==

Once you have arrived where you want to build place your chest to claim that area. Then use the ''/sethome'' command so you will respawn there after dying. Be sure to put a non-siegeable block (like stone bricks) on top of your chest to prevent other players from stealing it’s contents. You can find out what blocks can be broken (aka “Soft blocks”) in a siege by using ''/info siege''. You will need a gold shovel to expand your claim so get to digging and read [[claims and siege]] for more information.

Staff is here to ensure players are not violating rules. Staff is not here to settle disputes, tell you how to play, or show you how something works.

== Crews, Ships, and Cannons ==
Start by surviving a few nights and making friends on the server. It usually takes a little while to get into a crew. Once people know your play style and that you are going to stick around you will get an invite.

Stats used for ranking up are internal and can not be accurately reported to you. Keep playing and you will rank up, do not worry if the reported stats seem a little off.
For information on building ships use /info ships or you can /warp ships to see some existing examples.  Help on building and using cannons can be found by using /info cannons or /warp cannons to see some examples.

In most cases these features require you to rank up. You can [http://stats.piratemc.com check your stats online] but don’t worry if they are a little out of date. Keep playing and you will rank up, do not worry if the reported stats seem a little off. If you would prefer you can /donate to skip some rank requirements.

If you discuss or advertise another server or service you will be banned.
== Who can be trusted? ==

If you are caught cheating you will be banned.

I would advise newcomers to avoid other players until they have gathered sufficient resources to survive. As Piratecraft is a PvP server, there will always be someone out to get you unless you're playing with a trusted friend. Avoid accepting teleport requests from people you do not trust.
