Cannons

From PirateCraft

Cannons[edit | edit source]

Building Carronade Cannons are unlocked at Gunner rank. You can shoot pre-built Carronade cannons as a Sailor and build rusty cannons as a Cadet or simply donate and bypass all ranking. At present there are 5 cannon types that can fire many different projectiles. You can build a maximum of 15 cannons as Gunner, 20 as Lieutenant, 30 as Commander and 50 as Captain. Cannons are very versatile and make great siege tools.

You can use /cannons in-game for a basic tutorial on how to build a cannon.

Types of Cannons[edit | edit source]

Once you have the Gunner rank, you can build all the different types of cannons. If you place a blank sign on the side of the barrel, it will give cannon information and its owner.

Rusty Carronade Cannon

Made by placing 3 Grey Wool lengthwise and is unlocked at Cadet Rank, is ideally used to fire into/from ships or Fortifications! You can adjust how far your cannon fires using more/less gunpowder, with a maximum load of 3 gunpowder.

This cannon however can only fire a 'shrapnel' shot, which is in the form of a cobble stone shot, this does damage to the player, but however no explosive damage of sorts.

Carronade Cannon

3 long out of black wool, each end of the cannon needs a stone button, at the rear of the cannon you place a torch on top of the barrel. Better than the rusty cannonade, materials to build two of them are given out as part of the gunner rankup reward.

Detailed Information:

The Carronade cannon has a maximum load of 3 gunpowder, each gunpowder multiplies the velocity by 1.0, Spread of 1.0, Anyone next to the canon without a helmet will get 5 seconds of nausea, Has a fuse of 1 second, barrel cool down of 3 seconds, When aiming, it has maximum horizontal angle between -45° to 45° and can be fired by right clicking the end button or torch. There is an option to auto-reload projectiles & gunpowder via a chest and fire using an attached redstone signal.

Iron Cannon (short)

2 long out of Iron blocks, each end of the cannon needs a stone button, at the rear of the cannon you place a torch on top of the barrel.

Coal Cannon (short)

2 long out of Coal blocks, each end of the cannon needs a stone button, at the rear of the cannon you place a torch on top of the barrel.

Mortar

2 vertical high out of Iron blocks, top of the cannon needs an iron pressure plate, on the side of the bottom of the mortar you place a torch. You can fire vertically from the mortar, in a maximum of (about) 0° to 90 vertical angle, maximum horizontal angle between -45° to 45° arch from the opposite direction of the torch.

Coal Mortar

2 vertical high out of Coal blocks, top of the cannon needs an iron(?) pressure plate, on the side of the bottom of the mortar you place a torch. You can fire vertically from the mortar, in a maximum of (about) 0° to 90 vertical angle, maximum horizontal angle between -45° to 45° arch from the opposite direction of the torch.

Cast Iron Cannon

Also known as the coal cannon, better than the Cannonade Cannon and worse than the Iron Cannon, 3 coal blocks 2 buttons and a torch on the back. Can fire a variety of shots as well as status-changing projectiles.

Iron Cannon

The top-tier cannon only surpassed by the Double Barrelled-Iron Cannon, the iron cannon is built with 3 iron blocks and can fire powerful blasts of hardened cannonballs and the ender pearl shot.

Double Barrelled-Iron Cannon

A rarely seen sort of cannon, it is U-shaped. Start with 2 (short) Iron Cannons with the front stone button- but not with the torches or back stone buttons for them, with them built next to each other with a block's gap between them. Then connect them in the middle with one block of Iron, you should then place a stone button and torch on top of this middle 'back' Iron block.

-more looking into of this cannon type is needed, especially if the build instructions are correct, how it works, and whether it still exists.

Types of Projectiles[edit | edit source]

Cobblestone – Basic Cannonball

The Cobblestone cannonball is the basic form of projectile. Upon impact it causes brief slowness and nausea. It does not deal damage to blocks. Velocity of 3, Fires 1 cannonball, spread of 1, Explosion power of 2 (Creeper is 3), with a fuse of 1 second, Direct hit Damage of 10, If a player is next to an explosion 5 damage, Potion range of 5, Potion duration of 7, Potion amplifier of 1, Potion Effects harm & slow.

Diamond – Hardened Cannonball -Can penetrate 1 blocks; On Explosion will explode firworks, and a chance to spawn 1-3 neutral Iron Golems, Fireworks can ricochet back off the wall you hit too! This WILL work firing into protected claims! Flush out that pirate!

Melon Seeds – Canister Shot -Ideally anti-infantry, this can be used to clear fortifications and ship decks of personnel, or suppress them behind cover, ideally good with mortars against ships, as it is a vertical drop on the enemy ship, and the spread must be pretty large. There is no explosive terrain damage, though there may be some 'area-damage' if your standing nearby an impact of one of them.

TNT – Cluster bomb -Nerfed from its original 'small nuclear warhead'-like strength, is now a lot less. Though it is still dangerous as it will tear through ship armor and hulls, and could cause it to sink. Also good against enemy personnel due to its great damage.

Firework – Incendiary -Slightly nerfed, was used (don't know if still is) as a sort of bunker breaker, as it's explosive damage could travel through walls if players didn't properly claim their bases or armor them appropriately. Very dazzling.

Enderpearl – Teleportation -This projectile will fire YOU to where the Ender pearl projectile lands! Scale bases, launch yourself across the map! This also works into Claims! Note: these only work in 3-Long Iron cannons.

Ink Sack – Blinding Shot Projectile -Fire an ink sack from a 3 Long coal cannon to blind your enemies.

Zombie Head – Rotting Corpse Projectile -Fire a zombie head from a 3 Long coal cannon to poison your enemies.

Skeleton Head – Weakness Shot Projectile -Fire a skeleton head from a 3 long coal cannon to weaken your enemies.

Charcoal – Smoke Bomb -Fire charcoal from a 3 Long coal cannon to leave a large smoke bomb to obscure vision!

Loading, firing and aiming[edit | edit source]

You load gunpowder first by right clicking with gunpowder (Sulphur) in hand, you can load a maximum of 3 gunpowder for maximum velocity, Then right click a cobblestone block onto the barrel (It should disappear) Your cannon is ready to be fired! Take aim by clicking a clock on the barrel and taking aim or with an empty hand; right click the side of the barrel to take horizontal aim, Shift right click will decrease the angle, Right clicking the upper or lower side of the barrel will increase vertical angle, Shift right click to decrease angle. Fire the cannon by right clicking the torch or back button.
