The PirateCraft Environmental Protection Agency aka PEPA (Not to be confused with the lesser known PEA) is a Multi-crew PirateCraft agency devoted to the safe and responsible use of the natural resources found on the server.
Mission Statement[edit | edit source]
PEPA is committed to its core mission of protecting human health and the environment. We are committed to providing clean and safe air, water, and land for all PirateCraftians. We are building on the enormous progress the Hydra International Administration for Server Security has made since it was established in 2015 – increasing the safety of lakes and rivers, reducing smog, cleaning up contaminated lands, and guaranteeing the safety of chemicals in the marketplace.
What We Do[edit | edit source]
PEPA works to ensure that:
- PirateCraftians have clean air, land, and water;
- Multi-crew efforts to reduce environmental risks are based on the best available scientific information;
- Server laws protecting human health and the environment are administered and enforced fairly, effectively and as the public intended;
- Environmental stewardship is integral to PirateCraft policies concerning natural resources, human health, economic growth, energy, transportation, agriculture, industry, and international trade, and these factors are similarly considered in establishing environmental policy;
- All parts of society--communities, individuals, businesses, and state, local and tribal governments--have access to accurate information sufficient to effectively participate in managing human health and environmental risks;
- Contaminated lands and toxic sites are cleaned up by potentially responsible parties and revitalized; and
- Chemicals in the marketplace are reviewed for safety.
History[edit | edit source]
Born in the wake of elevated concern about environmental pollution, PEPA was established on February 2, 2020 to consolidate in one agency a variety of server research, monitoring, standard-setting and enforcement activities to ensure environmental protection. Since its inception, PEPA has been working for a cleaner, healthier environment for the PirateCraftian people.
To accomplish this mission, we:[edit | edit source]
Develop and enforce regulations
When the Server writes an environmental law, we implement it by writing regulations. Often, we set server standards that crews enforce through their own regulations. If they fail to meet the server standards, we can help them. We also enforce our regulations, and help companies understand the requirements.
Give grants
Nearly half of our budget goes into grants to crew environmental programs, non-profits, educational institutions, and others. They use the money for a wide variety of projects, from scientific studies that help us make decisions to community cleanups. Overall, grants help us achieve our overall mission: protect human health and the environment.
Study environmental issues
At laboratories located throughout the server, we identify and try to solve environmental problems. To learn even more, we share information with other crews, private sector organizations, academic institutions, and other agencies.
Teach people about the environment Protecting the environment is everyone's responsibility, and starts with understanding the issues. The basics include reducing how much energy and materials you use, reusing what you can and recycling the rest. There's a lot more about that to learn!
