 In its role as a floating battery, it was taken in tow by smaller 24-gun XNS [[Cormoran-class]] also belonging to [[The Xanthian Order]]. Due to diplomatic breakdowns between the Commonwealth and the Xanthian order, and disagreements on ownership of the two loaned ships, it was decided to tow the ''Neptune'' back to [[Xenia]] for completion with use of the ''Cormoran'' however the latter experienced a magazine explosion and quickly sank in the Freeport harbour. ''Neptune'', damaged and now without a tow, was scuttled as a blockship to disrupt trade to the Freeport.
