Frequently Asked Questions

What rank do I have to be to build ships?

You can build the starter ship dhow from deckhand rank.

What rank do I have to be to build cannons?

You can build and fire rusty cannons from cadet rank, and carronade cannons, iron cannons and mortars from gunner rank.

How can I claim my house?

A Golden Spade is used to create and resize claims to protect your home; to create a new claim, right-click the opposite corners of your building. Information about your claim will be given in chat. If you loose your first free claim shovel, you can either go mining to make your own or buy one from another player or shops. However, your chests aren’t safe from raiders, so place a stone brick block over it!

Where do I get my ship ?

Well, this is Minecraft, you can simply build your own ship using wood and wool (and other materials depending on ship type). We have a great guide with all ship types on our main website. Alternately you can also purchase a ready-made ship at /warp ships. One rents a dock and has 30 min to set sails and head out to sea. Then dock will then reset. Make sure to clear the spot. A third option can be to simply steal a ship from another unsuspecting seafarer. It's called PirateCraft for a reason !

How do I sail a ship?

To pilot your ship, or steal another, right click the ships control sign (ex: dhow), and you will be greeted with a message saying you have successfully piloted the ship. To move, you can either use the Cruise sign, or right click in the direction you want to move with your Golden Hoe, Your ship will start to move in that direction unless you are being obstructed by land, ships, or docks. To rotate your ship, you will need a sign on your ship with the line [helm] on board, This will turn into a wheel once activated by right clicking. To rotate right click the sign with a empty hand to rotate clockwise and left click with an empty hand to rotate counterclockwise, this will cause your whole ship to rotate. To release your ship you have to use the command /release in chat, or create a [release] sign on the ship, Or you could just leave your ship and wait for the 30 second timer to end. Alternatively, if you fall off and can't get back in, simply type /manoverboard to be placed back on your ship.

How do I play PirateCraft?

This is a pirate themed survival Minecraft server, not a minigame. You play like you would on a normal server, with the addition of several plugins. Most notably, the ships and cannons plugins. You don't need to have any plugins or mods installed yourself. In fact -per rules- playing is allowed only with either Vanilla or Optifine.

I have a problem that requires help from staff members!

Please make a support ticket, http://piratemc.com/forums/server-support/support-tickets/. Please appreciate that staff have lives and are very busy, so they may not get back to you straight away. One support ticket is plenty enough!

How do I leave spawn and find a home?

For a menu that shows all public warps and worlds use /travel.

Also can leave spawn by using the /warp command. Through most warps you will be able to walk a ways and find a home. The warps North, South, East, and West are the best. There is then at the end of each warp a random teleport sign. You can also do /map and follow the link that appears to find a spot that suits your needs. There is also /wild (for Deckhands only[[1]]). Alternatively, you can use the Live Map to find somewhere to settle.

I am a deckhand and I want to join a crew!

This server has a ranks system, and as the starter rank it is usually quite difficult for a deckhand to find a crew. It is recommended that you at least reach the sailor rank and show that you intend to stay with this server instead of expecting to start playing with a crew immediately.

How do I get money?

A new player starts off with £25 in server cash, however this quickly dwindles. For a new player to make money who does not have much in the way of resources, the options are to vote, which has a chance of giving cash sums as prizes as well as other resources or the player can gather resources that can be sold in sell shops. One example is the sell sign at /warp cove that enables a player to sell a stack of logs for £6. /info eco provides a brief guide on certain methods of making money.

Oh no! Somebody killed me and stole everything I own.

It happens to everyone. This is a pvp server so this is all allowed. If you want to be able to build a safe base then you need to understand how claims work. Remember each rank has a set of /kits for armor/tools.

My account got hacked can I get XYZ moved to this new account I have?

No. Get your account back by contacting Mojang at My account was stolen

When will you update to 1.13+

When Mojang sorts out the poor performance of running a server that was introduced in 1.13 and got even worse in the rushed 1.14.We also have a major part of the server to find a replacement plugin before we can move to 1.13.

Extremely common Suggestions

I have a unique idea to use ships more..

No you don't! We have talked about it before, we plan to add an additional world/server that's islands in sea and no teleport with a bunch of other things, please read the #help_wanted in discord to help create this project.

You should add airships!

Oh boy we are feeling adventures today with your ideas! This isn't a new suggestion. We are keeping the Pirate world ships only! We also plan for an additional Sky islands world for airships! Its on the Todo list!

Allow more cannons

No, there lots of redstone cannons fired together create lag. You can use /cannons reset to clear your active cannons to use the ones you currently want to use. Cannons only require clicking them to re-activate this takes a split second to setup the cannons you want to use at the time, make sure to /cannons reset.

Allow vertical Claims!

Too expensive to check, read this request from 2017 https://github.com/TechFortress/GriefPrevention/issues/269 Maybe in the future we can have it with sub-claims only.

Don't allow plots to be built next to each other

If you want space, CLAIM the space. Reference this github from 2017 https://github.com/TechFortress/GriefPrevention/issues/124

Make Claims go from bedrock to sky limit

Taken directly from the GriefPrevetnion set-up docs: > The default doesn't sink to bedrock because that would effectively claim valuable ore that the player placing them claim hasn't discovered yet. Please note! As a player digs or builds underneath his claim, his claim automatically sinks lower with him. Thus, mine shafts and basements are safe from grief even if you set this variable at a small value.

Old claims are not auto expiring

This is a bug with the logic for GriefPrevention claim removal never considering a server having hundreds of thousands of claims, they only tested with like 20 claims, iterating from claim 1, checking, then claim 2, there just isn't enough time between checks to check all ours before a restart.
